Can a private household individual sponsor a nanny from overseas to work in the UK?

UK nanny visa sponsorship

Can a private household / individual, sponsor a nanny from overseas to work for them in the UK? This article answers the question: how to sponsor a foreign nanny to work for you in the UK or rather, whether an individual can sponsor a foreign nanny to work in the UK

In my understanding, under the new UK immigration rules, a foreigner can only legally come and work in the UK as a nanny under the Skilled Worker visa for up to 5 years, unlike previously when nannies would only legally work in the UK under the domestic worker visa and for a maximum of 6 months.

The reason for this is because under the new immigration rules, nanny jobs in the UK are classified under skilled jobs. As such, a nanny from overseas must apply for a Skilled worker visa, which is a sponsorship visa.

That means, the nanny must have a valid nanny job offer in the UK and by a licensed sponsor.

Therefore, the only way for an individual household or a private individual to get a foreign nanny to join their family is by getting themselves licensed or going through a licensed organization from this list of organisations in the UK licensed to sponsor overseas foreign workers .

Unfortunately I have gone through the list of licensed sponsors but I see no individuals so I doubt if the UK government is currently giving sponsorship licenses to individual households or a private individuals.

How to get a UK nanny sponsor license

  1. Check if your business is eligible.
  2. Check if your job is suitable for sponsorship.
  3. Choose the type of license you want to apply for – this will depend on what type of worker you want to sponsor.
  4. Decide who will manage sponsorship within your business.
  5. Apply online and pay the fee.
