Mount Kenya is Africa’s second highest peak after Mount Kilimanjaro. It is also one of the largest free-standing volcanic mountains in the world.

At less than 190 KM north of Nairobi, Mount Kenya National Park is one of those must see must dos on a Kenya itinerary after the coast and a safari.

All along the entire Mount Kenya circuit, the mountain is a constant looming presence and can be see from many towns along the ring road as roads and hills appear.

Towns with best views of Mount Kenya from Nairobi to Nanyuki

Starting from Mwea town junction you will get the best views of Mountain Kenya for quite a stretch.

At Embu townyou still get some decent but very limited views of Mount Kenya.

As you approach Chuka town, the views of Mount Kenya are better than at Embu town especially around Chuka University.

Chogoria town too has some incredible views of Mount Kenya especially since that stretch has a climbing route.

In Ncubu town and at Meru town there is a long stretch via Timau town all the way to Nanyuki town whereby you will most likely begin your ascent to Mount Kenya.

On your way back from Nanyuki town, you will get best views of Mount Kenya at little lesser known towns of Naro Moru, Chuka, and Kiganjo.

You will then lose views of Mount Kenya at Nyeri town before it reappears again towards Karatina town.

Off Karatina town is Kerugoya townAnother town with the best views of Mount Kenya besides Nanyuki.

Then back to Mwea junction for some more incredible views.
