5 Black Panther Movie Quotes to Live By

Besides “Wakanda forever,” of course.

‘In times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers.’ – T’Challa

I will leave this one here.

A man who has not prepared his children for his own death has failed as a father.” – King T’Chaka

The Witness

I paraphrased it to “a woman who has not prepared her own children for her own death has failed as a mother.

I always make an effort to train my kids on the power of self sufficiency and learning to work with your own hands. Instead of putting efforts on counting my pennies and planning with them, I tell them to learn how to make their own money legally from a tender age.

“Just because something works doesn’t mean it can’t be improved.” – Shuri

Yes, just like a blunt pencil may still write or draw. But depending on the quality, pencils need to be sharpened every so often. And watching a pencil being sharpened, feels like a painful process.

And such is life.

There is always room for improvement. Sometime through a painful process. Sometimes through a not-so-painful process.

“My son, it is your time.” – Queen Mother Ramonda

Marvel Cinematic Universe

Yea Eva, it is your time too. To be prepared so that when the world of opportunity knocks, I can not only open the door, but seize it as well.

“You get to decide what kind of king you are going to be.” – Nakia

Marvel/YouTube

Just like a coin you can never determine for sure whether on tossing it will get you a head or tail. No matter how much you try. However, you get to decide when, and whether or not, to flip the coin.

In life too,  you are in full control of your choices and that your actions, in response to what ‘coins’ we face in life.

This Black Panther quote is quite in sync with Ralph Waldo Emerson’s quote:

The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.

Set a strategic broader vision or picture of how you’d like your future life to look like.

Then, only engage in those activities and with those people, that take you one step closer to your envisioned broader future.

It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped. – Tony Robbins

Leave everything else that is instead drawing you closer to being 50, toothless, and regretful because you ignored my valuable advice.

If you fail to decide what kind of … (fill in the blank) you become, someone else will do it for you.

I’ve waited my entire life for this. The world’s going to start over and I’m going to be on top.”- Erik Killmonger

Allow me to borrow again from the analogy of a pencil.

That most pencils have an eraser attached at the end remind us that the mistakes we make do not have to define us. What’s of greater importantance is that we rise after falling or making mistakes.

For tips on how to become more comfortable with failure and how best to navigate these unpleasant circumstances as they arise, get Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by Angela Duckworth. She talks about what goes on inside us when we fail. And how that—not talent or luck—is what makes all the difference.

Get up, start over and head to the top!
